Alaska

Gill, Shelly. Alaska. Photographs by: Patrick J. Endres. Charlesbridge: 2007. ISBN: 9780881062922.

In this informational book about Alaska you will find that it is not all about people living in igloos and outdoor potties. Alaska is beautiful. In a place called Barrow, Alaska the sun never rises from November to the middle of January. On March 30, 1867 they struck gold in Alaska. A sport that is played in Alaska is dog sledding, and you will be surprised how long the races go on. In the summer it gets 100 degrees F. There was also an oil spill in Alaska, and they have earthquakes and volcanoes. The photographs are tremendous and the poems are awesome. I recommend this book to 4th grade through 10th grade.
