Garland, Michael. The President and Mom's Apple Pie. Illustrated by the Author. Dutton Children's Books: 2002. Ages 7 and up.
This story is about a president coming to town and that president is William Howard Taft. President Taft comes to town on a train. When he got there, there was a good smell in the air. Then a boy named Michael lead the way down the street to the Italian Villa, but that wasn't what he smelled. Then he went down to a ribs place that's not it either. After that he went to Mrs. Wong's but that wasn't it either. Then he followed his nose. They ended up at the boy's place and that is what he smelled, his mom's apple pie. The art in this book looked bold, colorful, and funny. The way it looked funny was because the way the people looked. They had red cheeks, big heads, small hands, feet and bodies. Overall I thought this book was funny. I would recommend this book to other kids. I would recommend it to younger kids and maybe to older kids too. I think seven year olds to any age might like this book, but I know one thing is that I do like this book!
