Cal and Ario are going off to see the elephant. Izzy is left at home with Annie, Bartie, Frank, and baby Bessie. Cal gets typhoid, a sickness, but he does not want to leave the army. Izzy and his brothers write each other frequently, but what will happen to Cal? I thought that this book was okay, but it was not the best book I have ever read. I would recommend this book to people who like history and are in the 6th grade or higher. The pictures were terrific, because you could see how much Cal had changed when he came home.
