A woman named Sophie is telling about how her grandparents got to Ellis Island and why they went there. Sophie's grandparents came from Europe so they could be free from wars and hunger. They, as well as many other immigrants, traveled to Ellis Island on boats. After they got there they started to build houses and buildings. Then a fire broke out and burned Ellis Island to the ground. After they rebuilt everything Ellis Island shut its doors. Later it reopened to immigrants without diseases. I think this would be a good book for seven to eleven year-olds.
